Eugen Tomac spoke with Nicuşor Dan after Monday's consultations with the parties / “No party was positive”

Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac announced on Monday evening, on Antena 3, that he spoke with President Nicuşor Dan at the end of the consultations he had today with PNL, USR and PSD representatives in order to obtain a vote from Parliament for the investiture of the future government.

Eugen Tomac announced that he had a short discussion with the head of state after the first round of consultations with the political parties: “We had a short exchange of views”.

“In the last few days, I had dozens of meetings (…) The country, at the moment, needs a government. I hope that, including in tomorrow's discussions, I will be able to convince a majority to trust me and the cabinet that I will present”, said Tomac on Mihai Gâdea's show.

On Thursday, June 4, President Nicusor Dan appointed Eugen Tomac to form the future government, announcing that it will be a technical government.

“I intentionally said that we need a technical government, not a political one, because we have some major problems to solve. I have all the good faith and willingness to continue dialogue with all the pro-Western parties in Parliament (…) My request to the parties was to understand the context and to put this above political interests”, said Tomac on Antena 3.

When asked which of the parties gave positive signals regarding support for the investiture vote, Eugen Tomac explained: “Not a single party was positive. Each was quite applied to the line they felt entitled to support. Each party tried to justify their positions in the political context. But to move forward, to get out of this deadlock, action is needed.”

Eugen Tomac: “I'm not the only person who can respond to such a challenge”

“I don't think I'm the only person who can respond to such a challenge”, replied Eugen Tomac, after being asked why President Nicușor Dan chose him to try to form a new government, after the fall of the Bolojan Government.

“I would have liked that at the moment we could discuss another person, another situation and a political solution for the country, because, after all, the parties are the ones who ask for the vote of the citizens in order to govern, to bring welfare, to create and promote, which bring added value to a society. We are in an extremely complicated moment. I would have liked today not to discuss me, but to discuss how the political class responds to a situation in which we pass”, declared Tomac on Antena 3.

“I am honored by the president's proposal to try to form a government team, to try to find the necessary compromise from the political parties (…) I think that at this moment we need a lot of responsibility, maturity and courage to get out of this deadlock, and I think that Mr. President, because he knows me very well, we have known each other for at least 25 years, in the last two years we have worked side by side to convince the Romanians that Romania has a future, this country has people prepared and willing to assume important responsibilities in the Romanian state”, Eugen Tomac also affirmed.

Tomac discussed with PNL, USR and PSD on Monday, and will continue the consultations on Tuesday, in order to obtain the necessary number of votes to pass the Government through the Parliament.

The MEP and honorary advisor for relations with Romanians everywhere of Nicușor Dan has 10 days, from the nomination by the president, i.e. until Sunday, to appear in front of the Parliament to obtain the investiture vote.
