Hong Kong police said on Friday they arrested a passenger aboard Cathay Pacific flight CX811 after the carrier said the man tried to open a plane door during the flight, Reuters reported.
The police stated that the incident took place during a flight that took off this Wednesday from Boston to Hong Kong.
Cathay Pacific stressed in a press release that no passengers or crew members were injured, and that the flight landed safely on Thursday morning. The incident is now being investigated by the city's police force.
“Our cabin crew immediately intervened, inspected the door to ensure it was closed properly and reported the incident to the appropriate authorities and the police,” the airline said.
“The case has been taken over by the police for investigation. At Cathay, the safety of customers and crew guides our every decision,” the company added in the statement.
Hong Kong police also said a 20-year-old man from mainland China was arrested on Thursday morning on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance. Authorities did not provide further details on the incident.
