The airspace of the Republic of Moldova, temporarily closed after the appearance of a drone

Newsmaker.md writes that the drone was observed coming from Ukraine towards Taraclia district, later crossing Ceadîr-Lunga and heading towards Moscovei village, Cahul district.

The Air Operations Service of the National Army detected, at 09:35, an unmanned aerial vehicle that flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova without authorization.

“At 9:49, the aircraft was heard by the patrol of the Valea Perjei Border Police Sector. According to the data provided by the air surveillance systems, the drone crossed Ceadîr-Lunga heading towards the village of Moscovei, Cahul district. At 10:16, Drone disappeared from the radars near the town of Larga Nouă, Cahul district”the Ministry of Defense announced.

According to the country's Ministry of Defense, in connection with this incident, the country's airspace was closed between 09:55 and 10:08, later being reopened.

“And from 10.08 am the airspace of the southern part is closed”, added the institution.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs later stated that “this serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova is unacceptable” and reiterated “the need to strictly respect the sovereignty and airspace of the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with the norms of international law”.
