Investigators are facing difficulties in conducting research at the site of the explosion, as the upper floors of the affected building are at a major risk of collapse.
“Even now we cannot enter the area affected by the deflagration, it is very unstable, but we use drones to take photos and the area can be viewed from the outside.” said the chief commissioner from Criminalistics, Alexandru Poroșanu.
He stressed that the investigation would take time, given the substantial damage to the block.
So far, between 20 and 30 people have been questioned. Among them are tenants, witnesses who heard the explosion and people hospitalized.
The investigation analyzes both the hypothesis of a technical failure (possibly an equipment that did not work within normal parameters) and that of human error.
Authorities allowed temporary access to homes for people to retrieve money, documents and pets.
“We determine the measures after we finish the investigation on the spot, let's see where the epicenter of the explosion is and why it was so violent”the investigators said.
After the first night after the explosion in Rahova, the teams of the Capital City Hall and DGASMB continue to be present in the field, and at the current time lists have been made of the tenants who are waiting to enter the homes to get things they need.
Access to the staircase affected by the explosion is completely prohibited, the structure of the building being damaged. The situation remains under constant monitoring, and the support line 021.9524 is permanently active for any need for help, information or accommodation, Mayor Stelian Bujduveanu announced.
To date, 286 people have been evaluated and psychologically counseled, and 66 people, including three children and 11 elderly people, are staying in partner hotel units. A total of 411 accommodation places are available for those in need.
