Poland and Lithuania are ready to host American troops on their territory after the reduction of the US contingent in Germany. This was announced on May 6 by Presidents Karol Nawrocki and Gitanas Nausėda at a joint press conference during the military exercise “Brave Griffon 26–II”, broadcast by Dot Republic Media.
Nawrocki noted that Poland has a ready-made infrastructure for this.
“But it is also in the interests of all of Europe to convince President Donald Trump… that these soldiers remain in Europe, that is, in Poland, or in one of the Baltic countries, or in another region, this is the decision of Mr. President Donald Trump. I will encourage such decisions so that they remain in Europe,” RMF24 quotes.
The Polish President stressed that after the end of the Cold War, “the center of gravity of European security” shifted to NATO’s eastern flank.
Nauseda said Lithuania is also ready to accept more allied forces. According to him, Lithuania is interested in the US military remaining in Europe even if they are withdrawn from Germany.
“It is important that Washington remains focused on the region, so NATO allies must ensure that the United States does not turn its back on Europe,” he said.
The President of Lithuania noted that there are already more than 1 thousand American troops in the country, and by the end of 2027 they plan to fully deploy a German brigade of 5 thousand people there.
