Ciprian Ciucu does not rule out leaving the PNL after switching to the opposition. “If they are better next to PSD, good way!”

Ciprian Ciucu, first vice-president of the PNL, said on Thursday evening that any party risks facing individual departures in a situation like the one in which the PNL is at the moment, but ruled out possible group departures or a breakup of the party.

Asked Thursday evening on Antena 3 if there is a “risk of breaking up the party” if the PNL goes into opposition, as the leadership decided, Ciprian Ciucu admitted that “there is always” a risk of individual departures, but said that he did not think that an entire group could leave.

“There is another secretary of state, maybe a minister who wants to continue, maybe a deputy, senator. It happens. Not that I want it, on the contrary (…). I tell you what happens in such situations, not with the National Liberal Party, with any party. I think there were other similar situations, even in Romania”, he explained.

Ciucu: If they want to leave, good way!

The Liberal said that “every man is responsible for the decisions he makes”.

“If there are colleagues of mine who would like to leave our party, they are autonomous, it's their decision, you can't stop them. What can you do? Obviously we don't want to weaken the party, but if they want to leave and they're no longer in the current leadership, they're no longer with the National Liberal Party, they're better off with the Social Democratic Party, good way! You can't force love,” added Ciucu.

The first vice-president of the PNL drew attention to the fact that “anyone who says” from the party that they want to govern with the PSD “is outside the party's decision”.

“I learned one thing, and there were many, many moments when I did not agree with the decision of my party, while you are in a party, you fight within the party to impose a decision, at a vote, by statutory means, but after it has been voted, even if it does not suit you, you follow the decision of the party, because that is the party. This must happen to all our members. If someone else has a different opinion, it is not right”, he also declared Ciprian Ciucu, first vice-president of PNL and general mayor of the Capital.

Voices from the PNL expressed themselves in favor of remaining in government

In the meeting organized after the Bolojan Government was dismissed by the PSD-AUR motion of censure, the PNL leadership voted unanimously by 50 votes to go into opposition, but four liberals – Cătălin Predoiu, Nicoleta Pauliuc, Hubert Thuma and Toma Petcu – did not vote.

All are opposed to entering the opposition and do not rule out the resumption of negotiations with the PSD. They will test, in the coming days, according to party sources, what support they have in the PNL for a restoration of the vote and the alliance with the PSD.

Cătălin Predoiu, first vice-president of the PNL, spoke again on Thursday in favor of remaining in government, saying that “a party that has 14% at the moment, remains relevant on the political scene as long as it has the position of prime minister.

Also on Thursday, Alina Gorghiu, the president of PNL Argeș, said that the party must find solutions to unblock the political crisis and not go into opposition. She also criticized claims that if the PNL will propose another prime minister to govern alongside the PNL he will be “a puppet”.
