The French company CMA CGM announced that it ordered all its ships in the Persian Gulf and those heading to this area to take refuge “with immediate effect”. The operator has also suspended passage through the Suez Canal until further notice.
For its part, Hapag-Lloyd announced that it is stopping transit through the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Gulf to the open sea, “until further notice”.
And the Danish group Maersk warned its customers about possible delays in deliveries, in the context of redirecting ships to avoid risk areas.
The decisions come after Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in Israeli and US strikes on Iran on Saturday, according to an announcement made by Donald Trump and later confirmed by Iranian state media.
The region is experiencing a rapid escalation of violence, with Tehran retaliating with missile launches at Israel and some Gulf states, heightening fears of the conflict expanding and disrupting global trade flows.
