Ukrainian drones stopped the second largest oil refinery in Russia – media

After shelling by Ukrainian drones, the Kirishi oil refinery, the second largest in the aggressor country of Russia, stopped operating. Reuters writes about this on May 5, citing sources in the industry.

Local authorities reported a UAV attack on Kirishi in the morning. The NASA Firms monitoring system reported fires at the facility after successful strikes on it. The Ukrainian Security Service confirmed that the plant was the target of the drones.

According to the agency, Ukrainian drones damaged three out of four primary oil distillation units (PRO). They are the backbone of any refinery, and without them the plant cannot function, sources say.

It is difficult to estimate the time frame for repairing damaged installations; in addition, a number of auxiliary facilities were damaged, the report says. The plant's capacity is about 18 million tons per year, it provides 7% of the total Russian oil refining volume and is one of the key suppliers of diesel fuel to the domestic market and for export, writes Reuters.
