Trainers of the “Heart of Azovstal” conducted training on post-traumatic growth at Mariupol State University

Trainers on post-traumatic growth of the “Heart of Azovstal”, veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Didur and Sergey Yarovoy, conducted practical training for students and employees of Mariupol State University. The website of the Heart of Azovstal initiative wrote about this.

According to the site, the trainers spoke about their own experience of recovery from the experience and explained how this method works in practice.

“Participants learned about the key areas of change that can occur after traumatic events: rethinking the value of life, discovering one’s own strength, forming new meanings, deeper connections with loved ones. During the practical part, everyone had the opportunity to analyze their own experience and look at it from a new perspective,” noted the organizers.

Didur and Yarovoy talked about the myths that exist around post-traumatic growth. They say it is not mandatory for everyone, does not replace treatment, and does not happen quickly. At the same time, they noted, even a return to the baseline state is already an important result.

During the training, they also discussed how to interact with veterans in an environmentally friendly manner. Among the main tips are not to impose help, be able to listen and not belittle the experience.

“You shouldn’t compare your injury with someone else’s or downplay its significance. Every experience is important,” Yarovoy emphasized.
