Novak Djokovic, for the second consecutive year in Geneva: “I have cousins who lived here”
In search of the 25th Grand Slam title, Djokovic goes through a complicated period. Apart from the Australian Open, where he reached the semifinals, and Miami Open, where he played the final, the 37 -year -old tennis had results below expectations.
At Monte Carlo and Madrid, the two slag tournaments he participated in, Djokovic was eliminated from the first round. The athlete with 99 titles won was defeated by Alejandro Tabilo (3-6, 4-6) and Matteo Arnaldi (3-6, 4-6).
In this context, Djokovic made the decision to participate for the second consecutive year in the 250 -point tour in Geneva. In 2024, he passed Yannick Hanfmann (6-3, 6-3) and Tallon Griekspoor (7-5, 6-1), before losing, in the penultimate act, in front of the Czech Tomas Machac (4-6, 6-0, 1-6).
“I have cousins who have lived here for a long time. In the past, I visited them in multiple lines. I also trained here a few times but I never played at this tournament. I have never been to the club, it is certainly one of the most beautiful in the world. The park is impeccable. The image of the lake is incredible. So, in total, I feel very happy to be here, “said Djokovic last year, before the start of Geneva Open, for the official website of the ATP.
Born on May 22, the Serb can celebrate his birthday at the tournament in Switzerland. After Geneva Open, Djokovic will go to Paris to play at Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam tournament, held between May 25 and June 8.
