“The country is failing on all fronts.” What Russians are saying about the first parade in decades without military equipment

Project Sota asked Russians how they feel about the fact that the aggressor country will have no military equipment at this year’s May 9 parade for the first time in 19 years. A video of their responses was made public on May 6.

In particular, one of the women who agreed to talk to journalists said that equipment should be placed “where it is most needed – and why drive it, gasoline is expensive.” The next two respondents called the cancellation of the equipment parade a “sad” event, and another man called May 9 “incomprehensible.”

“The country suffers defeat on all fronts and celebrates what?” – he asked and nodded sarcastically at the journalist’s answer that the Russian Federation was celebrating “victory in the Great Patriotic War.”

“Russia is probably doing something wrong. If we can’t hold a wonderful holiday the way we want and how we used to spend it, it was a symbol. Vladimir Vladimirovich came up with the idea of celebrating it widely. And something went wrong,” added another respondent.

Among the survey participants there was also a man who wondered why they decided not to release the equipment into Red Square “for safety reasons”, but did not spare the people.

“If terror… Well, one or two tanks are damaged there, they won’t drop an atomic bomb there,” he noted, expressing the conviction that military equipment “still needs to be shown,” although, in his opinion, the Russian government “knows better.”

The latter in the video is nostalgic for “the times of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin,” when they mourned those killed during World War II, and did not celebrate the “victory.”

The publication notes that such a survey, under conditions of military censorship, does not pretend to be representative and may not reflect the true sentiments of the people surveyed. But “it can also reflect.”
