Experts answered how internet outages affect the warning system

December 14 9:30
Experts answered whether failures in the operation of the emergency notification system for the population are possible during interruptions in the mobile Internet.
As Yamal 1 writes with reference to one of the relevant civil protection departments, a network shutdown does not affect the operation of critical infrastructure.
“Disabling the mobile Internet does not affect the management of technical means of notification. Special technical solutions are used that are not affected by the shutdown,” the experts explained.
They emphasized that regional warning systems are designed to work in any conditions, including emergencies, and operate regardless of the availability of an Internet connection. Secure communication channels and autonomous technical solutions are used for control.
In addition, such systems have certificates of compliance with information security requirements and are reliably protected from cyber attacks. This ensures their performance even in conditions of limited or no communication.
