Ludovic Orban says the social democrats must assume government “with AUR or whoever they want”. Criticism of the PSD: “party of communist origin”

President Nicușor Dan should not entrust the formation of a new government to a coalition in which the PSD will enter, claims the president of the Forța Dreptei party, Ludovic Orban. He also stated that the Social Democrats cannot be considered a pro-European or pro-Western party. In his opinion, the constitutional solution is for the PSD to directly assume the government, given that the formation initiated and supported the motion.

Former Prime Minister Ludovic Orban stated that the responsibility of appointing the future Prime Minister rests with the Head of State, but he must take into account the new parliamentary reality created after the fall of the Government.
“The role of the president in the investiture procedure of the government is an important one, because in the end, the president, after organizing consultations with the parliamentary parties, appoints the person who occupies the position of prime minister, then the prime minister will form his government, the government program, ask for the confidence vote of the Parliament. So to speak, the ball is in Nicușor Dan's court at the moment”. said Ludovic Orban, in an intervention at Digi24.
He claimed that the censure motion submitted by the PSD together with the AUR definitively broke any possibility of collaboration between the social democrats and the right-wing parties.
According to Orban, both USR and PNL have already conveyed that they are no longer willing to govern alongside the PSD.
“If we analyze what happened, the political crisis caused by the PSD by submitting a motion of censure together with the AUR and the other non-frequent actors in the Parliament, practically broke any bridge between the PSD, on the one hand, and the National Liberal Party and the USR, on the other. In fact, even before Nicușor Dan's statements, the USR made a unanimous decision not to collaborate with the PSD in the government. And the PNL made a similar decision.” said the former prime minister.
Ludovic Orban criticized the PSD, which he said cannot be included in the area of western democratic parties.
“PSD is not a pro-European, pro-Western, pro-democratic party. PSD is a retrograde party, of communist origin, corrupt to the core and which has criticized all reforms in the current coalition, trampling on protocol and secretly collaborating in parliament with AUR”, he declared.
In the opinion of the former prime minister, the constitutional solution is for the PSD to directly assume the government, given that the formation initiated and supported the censure motion that led to the downfall of the Executive.
“PSD submitted a no-confidence motion together with AUR, managed to dismiss the government, proving that it has a parliamentary majority. PSD must take responsibility for governing. Yes, with AUR, or whoever they want.” Orban said.
He specified that the president should appoint a prime minister from the PSD side, and if the social democrats fail to obtain the investiture vote in Parliament, the mandate could later go to a coalition formed by PNL, USR and UDMR.
“If he is not able to form the PSD government, which I am almost sure of – that the PSD will not be able to obtain a majority for the investiture of a government – then he can once again give the mandate to a PNL-USR-UDMR coalition, because in the 2nd vote the parliamentarians judge differently than in the first investiture vote”, explained the former Liberal leader.
At the same time, Orban declared himself skeptical about the possibility of PSD forming a majority together with UDMR, parliamentarians from PNL and other parliamentary groups.
“It doesn't seem possible to me, and I think that there was certainly a difference of opinion expressed by some free representatives from the PNL, such as Predoiu, Alina Ghorghiu, Thuma, Toma Petcu, but I don't think that they could be followed by too many parliamentarians”. he said, according to the cited source.
“PSD has the opportunity to associate with AUR, because they submitted the censure motion together and fully undertook that effort”, concluded Ludovic Orban.
The former liberal leader Ludovic Orban is coming on Wednesday, May 6, from 1:00 p.m., to Interviurile Adevărul, where he will discuss the political crisis and scenarios regarding the future of government.
Invited to Interviurile Adevărul, the former PNL president will discuss the period that Romania is going through from the point of view of internal politics, after the Bolojan Government was dismissed with 281 votes, over the required threshold of 233, which led to the entry of the Executive into an interim regime.
