What Romania looked like 34 years ago
@ Since 34 years ago, Romania has experienced a demographic collapse. The last year with a positive (annual) natural increase in the population was 1991. Since 1992, Romania has recorded, every year, only negative values, INS announces.
@ The first round of the 1992 presidential elections in Romania took place on September 27, 1992, and the second round on October 11, 1992. Ion Iliescu was elected president, obtaining 61.43% of the votes in the second round, thus outranking the opposition candidate, Emil Constantinescu, from the Romanian Democratic Convention (CDR). Prime Ministers that year were Theodor Stolojan and Nicolae Văcăroiu.
@ Elena Bogdan and Ana Bogdan, tennis players, were born in 1992. The first one is less well known, standing out only during the junior period. She lost the junior final at Roland Garros 2008 to Simona Halep. In 1992, Simona Halep was already one year old.
@ The euro currency, which Romanians see “inflating” every day as a result of political instability, did not exist. It was to be released on January 1, 1999.
