Sorin Grindeanu says what proposal PSD will go with at the consultations in Cotroceni. The PSD leader's first reaction after the PSD-AUR motion passed

The leader of the PSD claims that “it would be normal” for Ilie Bolojan to resign from the position of prime minister, even interim, considering the “overwhelming vote” with which the censure motion of the PSD-AUR passed. He also said that PSD leaders will go to the consultations in Cotroceni with the proposal to continue the coalition.

  • After the motion passed, the Bolojan Government is dismissed, but the prime minister and the ministers do not automatically cease their activity, but remain in office until the members of the new Government are sworn in. However, the Bolojan Cabinet will have limited powers – it cannot issue ordinances or initiate bills.

“I didn't want to speak on the motion today because I think we still have to build a majority. It was adopted with a record number. I think there is life after the motion, I know this. I expect that in the next period Mr. President Nicușor Dan will call us for consultations”, Sorin Grindeanu told the journalists present in the Parliament.

The PSD president also said that “it would be normal for Mr. Ilie Bolojan to resign, even if he is acting”.

“We have to move forward with the other parties. I will go with my colleagues saying that we want to preserve the coalition. That we do not support minority governments. PSD will be active in finding a solution. I want us to have a fast government,” Grindeanu also declared.

The head of the PSD also told journalists that he and the party he leads will not support a technocrat prime minister, a variant circulated recently.

The PNL-USR-UDMR-minorities government was dismissed on Tuesday, following the PSD-AUR no-confidence motion. The total number of validly cast votes was 285, of which 281 votes were for the adoption of the motion of censure, PSD MP Silvia Mihalcea announced. 4 MPs voted against the motion. Three votes were annulled.
