Thousands of people protested on Saturday on the streets of Tel Aviv, in Israel, to demand the cessation of the war in Gaza, one day after the Government's decision to occupy the city of Gaza, AFP and Agerpres reports.
The protesters wore banners and photographs with the hostages that are still held in the Palestinian territory, asking the government to ensure their release.
On Thursday night, the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a new phase of military operations against Hamas in the Gaza strip, including occupying the city of Gaza. The announcement of this plan caused international disapproval.
In addition to the disarming of Hamas and the return of “all hostages, living and dead” that are still in the Hamas hands, the Israeli plan aims to demilitarize the Gaza strip and place it under Israeli control, before establishing “a civil administration” that is “neither Hamas nor Palestinian authority”, according to Nedanyahu.
The war in the Gaza strip was triggered after the Palestinian organization Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the death of 1,219 people, most civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli data.
Since then, Israeli reprisals have killed at least 61,330 people in Gaza, most civilians, according to the figures of the Haas Ministry of Health, considered reliable by the UN.
