Wage law, completed by the end of the summer. Dragoș Pîslaru: “Revenues from the public sector are not decreasing”

The government estimates that the draft of the future salary law will be developed by August 31 of this year. Although the interim Minister of Labor Dragoș Pîslaru gave assurances that the project will not lead to a decrease in the budgets' incomes, the Minister of Finance Alexandru Nazare said that any increases must take into account the budgetary constraints that Romania will have in 2027.

“It is a very important reform. What we must do is not to repeat the lesson received by Romania when it adopted the Pensions Law that was not sustainable, with increases that could not be supported by the state budget (…) The amount of funding that can be supported for next year is included in the fiscal-budgetary strategy for 2027. We are in discussions with the relevant ministry to determine the level that is sustainable, predictable and that does not induce risks for 2027”, said Alexandru Nazare.

The Minister of Finance reminded that in 2027 there will be no more grants from the PNRR, and the volume of financing from European funds will be reduced, this in the conditions that Romania will have to reduce its deficit to 5.1% of GDP.

Initially, Nazare refused to indicate the amount that will be allocated in addition to the salaries of state employees, but at the insistence of journalists he mentioned an amount in the range of 5-10 billion lei.

“Salary incomes from the public sector are not decreasing, I can confirm that”, stated, for his part, the interim Minister of Labour, Dragoș Pîslaru.

“There is a working scenario, at this moment, which will be able to enter into consultations with the unions, with the occupational families, after we have the confirmation from the Ministry of Finance on which financial tire we can sit on. But otherwise, with political will and standing behind this reform, there is no problem that we cannot adopt it by the deadline of August 31”, stated Dragoş Pîslaru, on Monday evening, in a briefing held at the end of the Government meeting.
