The Steaua Bucharest team, honored by the president Nicușor Dan, 40 years after winning the European Champions Cup

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, signed a decoration decree on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of winning the European Champions Cup in Seville, on May 7, 1986, those decorated being the members of the Stela Bucharest squad who are still alive.
The players and members of the team's technical staff from that time were decorated with the National Order “For Merit”, “wishing to pay tribute to the football team members of the “Steaua” Army Sports Club, who, by achieving one of the greatest performances in the history of national sports, as well as through their entire activity in the field, have brought special services to Romania”, says the press release of the Presidential Administration.
Thus, Anghel Iordănescu, second coach and player in 1986, was decorated with the “For Merit” Order in the rank of Commander, the rest of the team receiving the same decoration, but with the rank of Knight.
The decoration decree was signed by Nicușor Dan on the day Anghel Iordănescu turns 76.
These are the players Gavrilă Balint, Miodrag Belodedici, Ladislau Bölöni, Adrian Bumbescu, Ștefan Iovan, Marius Lăcătuș, Mihail Majearu, Ștefan Petcu, Constantin Pistol, Victor Pițurcă, Marin Radu, Dumitru Stîngaciu, Tudorel Stoica and Anton Weiszenbacher, who are joined by Vasile Iordache, at that time goalkeeper coach, and Ștefan Marinescu, physical trainer.
