The weather is getting very cold. ANM has updated the forecast and announces what awaits us for Christmas and New Year / Where it will snow

Temperatures will be mild and even warmer than normal for the next few days, then the weather will cool down significantly. According to the forecast of meteorologists, the next three weeks come with temperatures below those specific to the period in the calendar and it is not excluded that it will snow.
By the start of next week, the weather will be warmer than usual, with highs of between 4 and 14 degrees expected on Friday. Later, however, a wave of cold air will enter Romania starting on December 23. The coldest will be in the eastern part of the country, and precipitation is expected in the southern area, announced Elena Mateescu, executive director of ANM, to Digi24.
“A cold mass will also approach the area of our country starting next week, with the biggest deviations from the perspective of temperature values, which will approach the normal of the date in the calendar or even be slightly below the specific norms, especially in the eastern part of the country and with a high probability of precipitation in the south of Romania”, announced Mateescu.
What will the weather be like on Christmas and New Year's Eve?
Also, from December 23 and even on December 24, on the eve of the Christmas holiday, “we record temperatures close to the norms and with a high probability of precipitation, especially in the southern half”, added the director of the ANM.
According to the director of the ANM, the week of the transition into the new year, December 29-January 5, will bring lower temperatures throughout the country, but especially in the extra-Carpathian regions, and precipitation close to the normal level.
“We do not rule out that together with the colder air mass the long-awaited layer of snow will come, we will have snow especially in the mountainous area, but also in the lower relief areas of Moldova, Transylvania, and we do not rule out their occurrence in Oltenia or Muntenia. After January 5, towards the middle of the first month of 2026, the average thermal values will be slightly below those specific for this week, throughout the entire territory of Romania. The amounts of precipitation estimated for this interval will be slightly surplus in the extra-Carpathian regions, and in the rest they will be close to the normal ones” the ANM director also specified.
