Atalanta comes on the back of three consecutive wins in all competitions
The formation from Bergamo is in an obvious increase in form recently. After a missed start to the season domestically, for which Croatian coach Ivan Juric paid with his job, Atalanta seems to be slowly returning to the results it has become accustomed to in recent years.
The appointment of Raffaele Paladino as Juric's successor is proving to be a highly inspired decision by the Nerazzurri's management as the Gewiss Stadium line-up returned to the top half of Italy's table.
At the moment, thanks to the last two consecutive successes achieved in the championship (2-1 “at home” with Cagliari, respectively 1-0 on the field of Genoa), Atalanta has climbed to the 9th place in Serie A, being five lengths away from Como, the formation in 6th place, the last position leading to the European cups.
What's more, the two domestic victories are joined by the success against Chelsea in the Champions League, 2-1 in Bergamo, a result that propelled tonight's hosts to 5th place in the single group, a position that ensures direct presence in the round of 16.
With a win today, Inter will finish 2025 in first place in Italy!
On the other hand, Cristi Chivu has a clear mission. Three points tonight and top spot in Serie A with Inter at the end of 2025.
Currently, the vice-champion of Italy and Europe is the leader in the championship, having a minimum lead over Milan and Juventus, the occupants of the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively two lengths ahead of the champion Napoli, the team that closes the TOP 4.
So, regardless of the results that their rivals have recorded or will record in winning the “Scudetto” at this stage, if Inter wins against Atalanta, then they will occupy the leading seat in Italy at the end of the 2025 calendar year.
This goal may represent a good response from Chivu after the premature exit from the Italian Super Cup (2-3 on penalties with Bologna in the semi-finals, 1-1 after 90 minutes), a competition that was ultimately won by Napoli (2-0 in the last act against Vincenzo Italiano's side).
On the other fronts, Inter is doing well. In the Italian Cup, they qualified for the quarter-finals, and in the Champions League, they are in 6th place in the single group, a position which, as in the case of Atalanta, ensures access to the round of 16 of the competition.
