The IAEA, alerted to a drone attack on a radiation control laboratory at the Zaporozhye power plant. The first details

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was informed on Sunday that a laboratory at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which is under Russian control, was targeted by a drone attack, according to Reuters.

The IAEA stated that it is a radiation control laboratory.

No casualties were reported as a result of the attack, and it is not yet known whether the attack damaged the laboratory, which is outside the perimeter of the nuclear power plant, the IAEA said, quoted by Agerpres.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced that an agency team on site requested access to the laboratory. The official reiterated that any attack near nuclear targets could pose a risk to nuclear safety.

Waves of drone attacks

The incident at the Zaporizhia power plant comes amid intense exchanges of drone attacks between Ukrainian and Russian forces.

Russian drone attacks killed three people in Ukraine on Sunday, mainly in the southern port region of Odesa, and one person died near Moscow following Ukrainian strikes, according to authorities in both countries, AFP and Reuters wrote.

Kiev has in turn hit targets in Russia, ensuring it targets military targets as well as energy infrastructure to reduce the possibility of Moscow financing its war effort.

Ukrainian forces also hit the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk, considered one of Russia's main export ports with a capacity to handle 1 million barrels of oil per day, according to Reuters.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram that an oil tanker in the port, a Karakurt-class missile ship and a patrol boat were also hit in the wave of attacks. He claims that the infrastructure of the oil terminal has suffered significant damage.
