Officers of the Podkarpackie National Audit Office seized 47 slot machines and detained eight people during an operation against illegal gambling in Podkarpacie and the Lublin region. In 11 locations we also found, among others: weapons and drugs.

As the spokeswoman of the Chamber of Tax Administration in Rzeszów, Komm. Edyta Chabowska, told PAP, the actions were carried out by officers of the Podkarpackie Customs and Tax Office in Przemyśl (PUCS).

– The inspections covered 11 points in several cities in both voivodeships. In addition to gaming devices, the police seized 30,000. PLN in cash. Two people were charged with conducting illegal gambling games, she added.

Officers (PUCS) detected narcotics in seven locations. Dangerous items were also seized during the searches, including machetes, bayonets and knives. A total of eight people were detained.

As Commissioner Chabowska reminded, organizing illegal gambling games is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to 3 years. Regardless of criminal proceedings, premises owners and organizers may face an administrative fine of PLN 100,000. PLN from each machine.

As stated by the director Chamber of Tax Administration in Rzeszów junior inspector Krzysztof Basak, last year, proceedings conducted by the Podkarpackie National Audit Office ended with the issuance of nearly 300 decisions imposing financial penalties. The total amount of sanctions for violating the Gambling Act amounted to over PLN 80 million.
