Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has sold his Seattle mansion. He and his wife, Lauren Sánchez, moved to Miami about two years ago and own $237 million worth of property there. The sale of the Seattle mansion was the largest on record in Washington state through April, according to Fortune.com.
Jeff Bezos sold his Seattle mansion this spring for a record $63 million. He had bought the villa in 2019 for $37.5 million, so he made more than $25 million from its sale.
The Amazon founder, who is worth an estimated $237 billion, said he has moved to Miami, on Creek Island in Biscayne Bay. Also known as the “bunker of billionaires”, dozens of celebrities live on this island, including Julio Iglesias, Ivanka Trump, Tom Brady.
Bezos bought his last Miami villa in 2024 for $90 million, bringing the total value of the properties he owns in Indian Creek to about $237 million. The latest property he purchased is a six-bedroom, nine-bathroom villa with more than 12,000 square feet.
Although Bezos says he moved to Miami to be with his parents, the press writes that his move could also be motivated by tax advantages, to avoid the 7% tax on capital gains that was upheld by the Washington State Supreme Court in March 2023, and which does not exist in Florida.
