Iran says it has received the US response. What contacts are focused on “at this stage”

Iran said on Sunday it had received and was reviewing the United States' response to its latest offer for talks to end the war, according to Reuters and CNN.

Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said that Washington's response was being analyzed. Speaking on state television on Sunday, he claimed that Tehran's “14-point proposal” did not include the nuclear issue.

“Our 14-point plan focuses exclusively on ending the war and does not contain nuclear-related issues,” Baghaei said.

“At this stage, we are focusing on the specific aspects of ending the war in the region, including in Lebanon,” he added.

The Iranian official also noted that “the US claim to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz fundamentally is not part of our plan.”

Trump had said the Iranians “still haven't paid a big enough price”

Esmaeil Baghaei's statements come in the context in which US President Donald Trump had said on Saturday that he would probably reject the Iranian proposals, because “they have not yet paid a high enough price”.

“I will soon look into the plan Iran just sent us, but I can't imagine it would be acceptable considering they have yet to pay a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity and the World in the last 47 years,” he wrote on social media on Saturday.

On Sunday, the intelligence structure of Iran's Revolutionary Guards declared that “the margin of decision of the US has narrowed”, and “Trump must choose between “an impossible military operation or a bad deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

Meanwhile, the White House said the US blockade targeting Iranian ports is “working” and “puts an enormous amount of pressure on Iran”. The country is facing “hyperinflation” and “famine”, claimed Kevin Hassett.
