Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, emphasized that Poland must continue and accelerate the modernization of its army, regardless of the possible outcome of the conflict beyond the eastern border. In his opinion, signals regarding peace talks cannot lead to a slowdown in efforts to promote state security.

Kosiniak-Kamysz, commenting on the joint statement of Marco Rubio and Andriy Yermak on Monday, assessed it as “a much more positive signal than the reports about the peace plan themselves.” He emphasized that it is crucial that Ukraine is “the subject of this action, not the object.”
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that even positive signals from the negotiation process cannot lead to a reduction in Poland's efforts to modernize its army. – We still have to arm ourselves, we have to build security – he emphasized.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense said that “like a mantra” he would remind us of the need to arm ourselves so that “our actions are not slowed down, so that someone does not think of limiting the security budget.”
In his opinion, Poland should further accelerate its army modernization efforts. – I believe that acceleration will be necessary, even more, in an even shorter time – said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian President Andriy Yermak's chief of staff said on Sunday in Geneva that they held their best meeting yet on ending the war in Ukraine, and both teams are working on changes to the US peace proposal.
Rubio and Jermak informed journalists about significant progress in talks in Geneva on the 28-point US peace plan. As they emphasized, both sides have analyzed the project point by point and are working on changes. – We have made very great progress and are moving towards a just and lasting peace that the Ukrainian people deserve and want more than anyone else on this planet, Yermak said on Sunday.
On Monday, at the European Union-African Union summit in the capital of Angola, Luanda, the leaders of EU countries – including Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk – held a special meeting devoted to the 28-point peace plan for Ukraine presented by the US. On Sunday, representatives of the informal E3 group of France, Germany, Great Britain, as well as the EU, the USA and Ukraine met in Geneva, Switzerland.
Details of the 28-point plan were published on Thursday by Axios. According to it, Kyiv would undertake, among other things, not to join NATO, limiting the number of troops to 600,000. soldiers and giving Russia part of the territory.
On Friday, Reuters reported, citing two people familiar with the matter, that the United States had threatened to limit the sharing of intelligence and weapons supplies to Ukraine to force it to accept the peace agreement with Russia. President Donald Trump said that he gave Ukraine until Thursday to agree to the plan to end the war proposed by the Americans. On Saturday, Trump stated that the proposed plan is not his final offer to Ukraine.
On Sunday, Reuters reported that in a counterproposal to the US plan, European leaders demand that Moscow provide financial compensation to Kiev and freeze Russian assets until it is paid. It also provides for Ukraine's obligation to refrain from military attempts to regain the occupied areas of its country and to conduct negotiations regarding the territories occupied by Russia. (PAP)
