In the city of Kochi (India), an elephant, which was brought to a temple, suddenly began to behave aggressively, attacked people and damaged vehicles. The Indian agency PTI reported this on May 1.

The incident took place on Friday, May 1, in Kidangur area of ​​Angamaly near Kochi. The elephant attacked several people, PTI reported citing police. As a result, one person was killed and at least one more was injured, including the driver (mahout), who was injured.

Video footage of the incident, which was broadcast on television channels and subsequently circulated on social networks, shows how a huge animal attacked cars parked near the temple.

As reported by the British newspaper The Sun, the incident lasted approximately two hours. According to her, the elephant broke free of its chains shortly after arriving at the temple and began destroying everything around, in particular overturning cars, scooters and damaging the wall of one of the houses.

The publication also writes that the 40-year-old man who brought the animal to the temple died after being trampled by an elephant. Another man was injured and is being treated.

As reported by PTI, a special unit of the forest department has arrived at the scene to monitor the elephants. Law enforcement officials are taking measures to prevent the animal from leaving the temple grounds into densely populated areas.

According to The Sun, the elephant was subsequently tranquilized and tied near the temple.
