Cold soil is a problem for early plantings. Shelters and mulch retain heat only on the surface, but the roots need more. The solution – heating from the inside due to a chemical reaction.
The method is extremely simple, but requires special accuracy and caution:
Ingredients
Slaked lime – The basis of the mixture. In contact with water, it releases heat. Urea or ammonium nitrate They enhance the reaction and work as top dressing. Sawdust or straw Slow down the process, prolonging heat transfer and protecting the roots from overheating.
Procedure of action
- Mix 1 part lime, 0.5 parts of urea and 2 parts of sawdust.
- Dig a trench with a depth of 30-40 cm along the bed.
- Pour the mixture, moisten slightly and immediately bury.
The reaction will begin in a few hours and last up to two weeks.
The method is suitable for emergency heating, but do not use it often – this affects the balance of the soil. It is better to use pointwise when other methods do not help.
