Two artillery shells were found at a former military training ground near the French city of Bourges, where an unauthorized rave festival took place. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced this on May 3, BFMTV reports.
The festival, which began on May 1 and took place over the weekend, attracted about 40 thousand people.
It was banned by authorities in Cher Prefecture, calling the former military site “very dangerous” due to the potential presence of unexploded ordnance.
On May 3, the head of the French Ministry of Internal Affairs arrived at the scene. According to him, the first shell was found on May 1, the second was discovered today. They will be moved and destroyed in the coming days.
Nunez believes there may be more shells at the site.
Despite the findings, according to media reports, about 17 thousand visitors were still at the site on Sunday.
The Minister of Internal Affairs assured that they would be fined, twice: for entering a military facility and for participating in an illegal assembly.
Organizers said they deliberately chose the location near Nunez's hometown of Bourges to protest government policies against illegal parties.
