The Swedish prosecutor's office arrested the previously detained bulk carrier Caffa at the request of the Ukrainian side. This was reported by Sveriges Radio.
Journalists contacted the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and received confirmation that it was Kyiv that approached the Swedish authorities with a request to confiscate the ship.
The cargo ship, intercepted in early March in the Baltic Sea, has been anchored off the coast of Trelleborg all this time. Swedish prosecutors today mentioned the possible transfer of the vessel to another state.
The Marinetraffic service indicates that Caffa flies the flag of Guinea. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine believes that the transport is involved in the theft of grain from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
The Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for sanctions policy, Vladislav Vlasyuk, told RBC-Ukraine that the ship contained grain illegally exported by the aggressor country Russia from the occupied Ukrainian territories.
He called for scaling up this practice in relation to the entire “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation.
