An entomologist explained why male ticks are more dangerous than females

30 April 13:40

Male ticks can be more dangerous than females because their bites are easy to miss. Entomologist of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Tomsk Region Tatyana Pankina spoke about this at a press conference, writes RIA Tomsk.

According to her, both males and females carry the pathogens of tick-borne encephalitis, borreliosis, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis and tularemia. But males stick to the body for a short time, and people often simply don’t see it.

“Because the body is hot, the tick dries faster, and in order not to dry out, the male took a sip of liquid and crawled further. But at the moment when it pierces the skin, the transmission of pathogens is already underway,” the entomologist explained.

Let us remind you that in the Krasnoyarsk Territory over the past seven days188 residents suffered from tick bites, including 71 children. This is 6.7 times more than in mid-April.
