These 3 varieties of onions are my favorites in five years: from one square to 5 kg

Onions are a crop that no garden can do without. But in order to get juicy, large bulbs that will last all winter, it is important to choose the right variety. This material contains three favorites, known to experienced onion growers and officially included in the State Register of the Russian Federation.

Many gardeners know and appreciate the early hybrid “Golden Semko F1”. This semi-sharp onion ripens quickly – 65–70 days pass from germination to lodging. It produces juicy turnips weighing 80–100 grams, and the yield per square meter reaches 4–5 kilograms. Its bulbs are round, covered with two or three bright golden dry scales on top, and white and juicy inside. The variety is stored well (up to six months) and almost does not lose yield when planted for the winter. It can be planted before winter or grown through seedlings. “Golden Semko F1” grows quietly in the central, northern and southern regions, almost never gets sick and is rarely affected by powdery mildew.

Dutch red variety “Red Baron” Most often used for salads, but it lasts well all winter. It takes longer to ripen – 120-130 days – and needs a lot of light. Its bulbs are smooth, round-oval, weighing from 50 to 120 grams. They are purple on the outside, pinkish-purple on the inside, and if you remove the onion a little early, the core will be white. In addition to salads and long-term storage for 5–7 months, Red Baron is good for canning. It is resistant to downy mildew and fusarium. It is often planted before winter, although shoots sometimes occur during spring planting.

Another Dutchman – a hybrid “Centurion F1”which is considered an improved version of the famous Stuttgarter Riesen variety. This is a mid-early, sharp onion with a powerful root system. Its bulbs are rounded and elongated, with a small bottom and a narrow neck, weighing 100–150 grams. Dry scales are golden brown, it is white inside. The yield reaches 3–4 kilograms per square meter, and onions can be stored for up to 8 months. The variety is excellent for winter sowing, practically does not bolt and can withstand frosts down to minus 15 degrees without snow. “Centurion F1” has been listed in the State Register since 2006, it is recommended for the Central region, as well as for the north and south.
