On Tuesday, Trump announced that Iran had asked the United States to lift the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz while negotiations between the two sides take place. “Tehran wants this crucial waterway for the transportation of oil and gas to be opened 'as soon as possible' while they try to sort out the situation at the top of power,” wrote the US president on the Truth Social platform. “Iran has declared that it is in a 'state of collapse,'” he added.

Iran has hinted that it may be willing to accept an interim agreement on reopening the strait in exchange for Washington lifting the blockade of Iranian ports and at the same time postponing negotiations on its nuclear program until later.
