To make tomatoes sick less and produce stable fruits, it is important not only to water and tie them up in the summer. The main decisions are made already at the stage of planting seedlings in open ground, including through competent preparing the planting hole.
An easy way to improve your soil
The author of the blog “Good luck at the dacha” (18+) draws attention to an effective technique: it is not the surface that should be fertilized, but the hole itself. This local application of nutrients improves soil structure, stimulates the development of the root system and generally reduces plant stress after transplantation.
As a result bushes begin to grow faster and more easily endure the vagaries of the weather.
What can you add to the hole?
One of the popular tips is to use crushed crackers (2 handfuls per hole). The yeast contained in bread activates the activity of beneficial soil microflora. This gives several advantages:
- bacteria begin to more actively process organic matter;
- additional heat and carbon dioxide are released;
- the roots receive more nutrition, and the soil becomes looser.
Result: stable growth and long fruiting
Thanks to this additive, tomatoes are less likely to suffer from fungal diseases, actively grow green mass and set fruit. Under favorable conditions Harvest may continue until October. However, do not forget that any method has limitations. For example, breadcrumbs are not suitable for acidic or already contaminated soil.
