President Donald Trump said that the United States has effectively suspended face-to-face negotiations with Iran and sees no point in continuing them in the previous format. He said this on April 26 in a telephone interview with Fox News.
According to Trump, the American side recalled its representatives due to ineffective organization of meetings, the dates of which were determined at the last minute.
“We don't do that anymore. If they want to talk, let them come to us or… let them call. We have secure lines – although, frankly, I'm not sure that any line is completely secure,” he said.
Regarding the terms of the agreement, he stressed that Washington's position remains unchanged.
“It’s very simple: they cannot have nuclear weapons. Otherwise, there is no point in meeting,” the president said.
Commenting on the “serious weakening of Iran” that he said was a result of US actions, Trump also cited economic pressure, particularly the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, which is already having serious consequences.
“If large volumes of oil cannot move through the system – because there is nowhere to store it or send it – the system begins to collapse from the inside. This leads to explosions – both mechanical and underground. They say they have about three days left of this,” he said.
