Iran, through Pakistani mediators, presented the United States with a new proposal to restore the Strait of Hormuz and end the war in the Middle East. This was reported by Axios, citing sources.
Iran, according to media reports, proposes to first resolve the crisis around the strait and lift the American blockade.
Tehran also proposes to extend the truce for a long period, or the parties will agree on a permanent end to the war.
At the same time, Iran proposes to postpone negotiations on the nuclear program to a later date – after the opening of the strait and the lifting of the blockade.
The White House, according to Axios, has been given this proposal, but it is not yet clear whether the United States is ready to consider it.
White House press officer Olivia Wales said in a media comment that “these are sensitive diplomatic negotiations” and the United States will not conduct them “through the press.”
She also stressed that the United States will only enter into an agreement if it puts the American people first and “under no circumstances” allows Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
The US wants Iran to stop enriching uranium for at least 10 years and remove its enriched uranium from the country. One source told Axios that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made it clear to Pakistani, Egyptian, Turkish and Qatari mediators over the weekend that there was no consensus within the Iranian leadership on how to meet U.S. demands.
