The man who opened fire at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on April 25 told police he wanted to shoot officials in the administration of US President Donald Trump. CBS News wrote about this, citing sources.
According to media reports, the shooter did not directly say that he was targeting Trump, but only “administration officials.” No specific names are mentioned in the publication. It is known that in addition to the US President, First Lady Melania Trump and senior White House officials were present at the event. In total, about 2.5 thousand people attended the dinner.
The New York Post reported that the suspect had already been identified as 31-year-old California teacher Cole Allen. Police believe he acted alone. There is also an assumption that he could have an autism spectrum disorder, as stated by his neighbor.
When the shooter opened fire, dinner participants were evacuated. Previously, a Secret Service agent was injured. He was saved by his body armor and is in “satisfactory condition.”
