The ranking of the richest Italian municipalities was prepared by analysts from a research institute in Bergamo. The first place, taken by a town where fewer than 80 people live and about 1,300 head of Limousine cattle, is a surprise, also for the inhabitants themselves – emphasized the daily “Il Corriere della Sera”.

As the newspaper added, this is an area without luxuries, without a bank, bar or shop, and wealth there has its roots in the land. There are modern agricultural companies in this town, and one of them operates internationally.
The town itself, whose symbol is a medieval fortified castle, is little known and does not attract tourists – it was noted.
According to the latest data from 2024 the average income per capita there was over EUR 72,000 and was 195 percent higher than the previous year. This is due to the fact that a group of high-income taxpayers moved there.
Maccastorn to the surprise of the local population, it overtook the traditionally first place town of Lajatico in the province of Pisa in Tuscany, best known for the fact that the tenor Andrea Bocelli comes from there and lives there. The average per capita income there is over EUR 67,000.
In third place is Portofino in Liguria, which attracts thousands of tourists (65.8 thousand euros).
