Indirect negotiations in Pakistan. Summary of the night

Indirect negotiations

— No meeting of representatives of Iran and the US is planned. Iranian assessments will be forwarded to Pakistan, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bakael said. Earlier, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated that on Saturday morning US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and the head of state's son-in-law Jared Kushner will go to Pakistan for talks with a delegation of the Iranian authorities. According to Leavitt, “the Iranians reached out, as the president had appealed to them, and asked to speak to them in person.”

“Attacks must be resumed”

The time for negotiations with Iran “is over,” said Roger Wicker, chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee. “Our commander-in-chief of the armed forces should order his experienced military commanders to complete the destruction of Iran's conventional military capabilities and eliminate all remnants of its nuclear program,” he wrote on X. “This is the only way to ensure long-term stability in this region,” the senator said.

US “strengthens the death penalty”

The U.S. Department of Justice has approved shooting as an acceptable method of capital punishment. The decision is part of a broader package of actions announced on Friday, the purpose of which is – as the department explains – “to deter the most barbaric crimes, bring justice to victims and provide long-awaited closure for victims' loved ones.”

In a report on the death penalty published on Friday, the department also recommended examining the possibility of carrying out executions using various methods, including the electric chair and the gas chamber. In 2025, the state of Alabama carried out the first execution by asphyxiating a prisoner with nitrogen. The prisoner then requested that the method of execution be changed to shooting.

What awaits us on Saturday?

At At 8 a.m., the District Court in Dąbrowa Górnicza will hear the case of a man who fatally hit MP Łukasz Litewka. The hearing will decide whether the 57-year-old will be imprisoned. Investigators justify the need to isolate the suspect, among others: facing him severe punishment and the risk of fraud.

The annual White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner will be held in Washington, with the participation of Donald and Melania Trump. Although presidents have traditionally been guests of the event for over 100 years, this will be Trump's first appearance as head of state. During his first term, Trump boycotted the dinner, calling the media “the enemy of the people.” This year, to avoid controversy, instead of the usual comedian performance, illusionist Oz Pearlman will perform in front of thousands of journalists and politicians.
