On Thursday, Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) announced a tender for the construction of a section of the high-speed railway line (HSR) between Warsaw and Łódź. A contractor is being sought for the 14.3-kilometer “Y” railway section between the airport and Bolimów junctions.

As stated in the announcement, CPK, the company responsible for the implementation of the Port Polska investment program, is looking for a contractor for construction works with design elements for investments carried out as part of the task “Design and construction of high-speed railway line No. 85 between the airport and Bolimów junctions (without junctions)”.

This is a 14.3-kilometer section of the line, part of the railway “Y”, which will connect Warsaw, Łódź, Poznań and Wrocław. Trains will travel along it at speeds of up to 350 km/h. The line will allow such speed to be achieved both in terms of technical parameters, geometric alignment, collision-free crossings, anti-vibration and acoustic protection, as well as the new Polish standard of power supply from the overhead line – 25kV alternating current.

CPK announced that the deadline for submitting applications to participate will be June 12. In the next stages of the procedure, a maximum of 5 potential contractors will be selected for negotiations.

In every procedure conducted by Port Polska, we focus primarily on Polish contractors. We want this huge investment to drive the Polish economy, and the orders, know-how, experience gained and profits will primarily strengthen the domestic construction industry – noted Maciej Lasek, government representative for the Central Communication Port.

The order will be completed in the “optimize and build” formula. The tasks of the selected contractor will include, among others: development of design documentation and construction of 14.3 km of high-speed line. The task includes the construction of, among others: 55 engineering structures, as well as the reconstruction or construction of approximately 30 km of roads.

Piotr Rachwalski, member of the management board of the Central Communication Port for railways, explained that the first line of the Warsaw-Łódź HSR was divided into six sections. The one for which a competitive dialogue has just been announced starts right behind the airport and leads to the Bolimów junction.

Last week, in the procedure for the construction of another part of the railway line No. 85 between Kotowice and the airport junction, CPK opened applications for admission to competitive dialogue.

Further tenders are being prepared for the construction of the remaining four sections of the Warsaw – Łódź HSR line. The first one covers 18 km – from Warszawa Zachodnia to Kotowice, and the next ones: 12 km within the Bolimowski Junction, 37 km from the Bolimowski Junction to Brzeziny and 11 km from Brzeziny to Łódź.

Two procedures are also planned, covering traffic control (SRK) and telecommunications, as well as the traction network with power supply for the entire Warsaw – Łódź line; the company wants to announce them this year.

According to the schedule, the section of railway line No. 85 between Warsaw and Łódź, which will also take passengers to the new airport, is to be launched in 2032. Three years later, the “Y” railway will provide access to Poznań and Wrocław. (PAP)
