Macron has a warning for Europe about the US: “It was seen well in the case of Greenland”

French President Emmanuel Macron predicted on Thursday that the US will not protect Europe “for a long time” and expressed his regret at the “madness” of some leaders that may lead to war, reports AFP.

“The challenge for our Europe is to be stronger and more independent, because the US will not protect us for much longer,” the French leader said at a meeting with students of the French-Cypriot school in Nicosia, Cyprus.

“This has been seen well in the case of Greenland, in what is happening today in Iran and a little in what is happening in Ukraine,” added Macron, when a student asked him: “What can young people do to promote peace?”.

“They are still there, it is formidable, they are allies, but Europe was built on the idea that the United States will protect us forever. For your generation, I think this will no longer be true,” the French president emphasized, according to Agerpres.

“If tomorrow we are no longer able to protect ourselves for our defense, if all our technological solutions are in the hands of others, you can say whatever you want, but we will have no choice,” he added, pleading once more for more European sovereignty.

Emmanuel Macron also advised young people to “always seek to understand others” and “have a taste of the future”, saying that “peace is not decreed in a day” and that it also depends on them.

“War is born from misunderstandings, lack of communication or the madness of certain leaders and sometimes peoples who believe that their security will come from the destruction of their neighbor,” the leader from the Élysée Palace stressed.

“He loves war who no longer hopes for anything. When you love the future, you have no desire to make war,” he added, without naming any leaders.
