Calea Victoriei and Ion Brezoianu become pedestrian from this weekend until October. The “Open Streets – Bucharest, Urban Promenade” project is back

From Saturday, April 25, until October 11, between 09:00 – 22:00, on Saturdays and Sundays, there will be traffic restrictions for drivers in the center of the Capital, for the organization of the “Open Streets – Bucharest, Urban Promenade” event.

From April 25 to October 11, between 09:00 and 22:00, only on Saturdays and Sundays, except for April 26 (between 08:30 and 15:30), May 10 (between 09:00 and 14:00), June 13 (between 17:00 and 19:00), June 14 (between 10:00 – 13:00), June 27 (between 16:30 – 18:00), August 30 (between 07:00 – 14:00), September 20 (between 07:00 – 13:00), September 26 or 27, October 10 and 11, Bucharest City Hall, through ARCUB – Bucharest City Cultural Center, will organized the cultural-artistic event dedicated to the “Open Streets – Bucharest, Urban Promenade” project, announces the Road Brigade.

The event will take place in the following areas:

  • Calea Victoriei, the road segment between Bd. Dacia and Splaiul Independenței, without affecting road traffic in the intersections;
  • Str. Ion Brezoianu, the road segment between Str. Lipscani and Str. Valter Mărăcineanu;
  • Str. Valter Mărăcineanu, the road segment between Str. Ion Brezoianu and Calea Victoriei.

Traffic restrictions also apply to bicycles and scooters

Road traffic will be restricted for motorists as well as cyclists and scooter users.

Activities dedicated to the general public will be held on these sections, namely street mini-concerts, theater and dance performances, workshops for children, living statues, photo studios.

During the imposed restrictions, crossing will be allowed on Calea Victoriei, at the intersections with Bd. Dacia, Str. CA Rosetti, Str. Știrbei Vodă, Str. Ion Câmpineanu and Bd. Regina Elisabeta.

It will also be allowed to cross on Str. Ion Brezoianu, at the intersections with Str. Donița Anastasia and Bd. Regina Elisabeta, and the cross on Str. Valter Mărăcineanu will be allowed at the intersection with Str. Ion Campineanu.

The restricted perimeters will be properly fenced, so that, in the car crossing areas, pedestrians are directed to the sidewalks, respectively pedestrian crossings.

Residents will be allowed access to their homes, as well as to the economic units in the area, according to the signs temporarily installed during the restrictions, under the supervision of the authorized authorities.

Alternative routes for Bucharest drivers

Alternative routes are recommended:

  • Victoriei Square – Lascăr Catargiu Blvd – Romană Square – Gheorghe Magheru Blvd – Nicolae Bălcescu Blvd – University Square – IC Brătianu Blvd – Unirii Blvd – Independence Splaiul;
  • Victoriei Square – Str. Buzești – Str. Storks.

The Road Brigade will order measures to streamline road traffic and prevent traffic accidents.

At the same time, motorists are asked to drive with caution, to keep a sufficient distance to be able to brake safely, not to stop or park except in specially arranged places and to respect the signals and indications of the traffic police.

Pedestrians are advised to move only on the sidewalks, to cross the street only through the specially arranged places and at the green color of the electric traffic light, after they have made sure and the vehicle drivers have understood their intention to cross.
