Cenckiewicz announced his decision on Thursday in a post on the X platform. “Due to the illegal actions of Donald Tusk's government, which does not respect final court judgments and unjustifiably deprives me of the right to access classified information, on April 22, 2026, I submitted my resignation to President Karol Nawrocki from the position of Secretary of State – head of the National Security Bureau,” he wrote.

He added that from now on he will support the president “in a completely different role.” “I support my successor – General Andrzej Kowalski, and all my colleagues from the National Security Bureau, thank you and wish them good luck,” Cenckiewicz emphasized.

As he said, he made the decision to resign “in responsibility for the state, one of whose important offices – the National Security Bureau, was subjected to brutal interference and pressure from Donald Tusk's government.” “The anti-state vandalism of Tusk and his associates, unprecedented in history, has in practice paralyzed the normal functioning of the National Security Bureau, and prevented me from performing the function entrusted to me on August 7, 2025 by the President of the Republic of Poland,” Cenckiewicz said.

He added that the judgment of the Supreme Administrative Court of April 15 this year “he didn't change anything in this respect, and even intensified further harassment, persecution and investigations.”

My knowledge about the role of Prime Minister Tusk and his collaborators in the process of subordinating Poland to the Russian Federation in 2007-2014, the related content of the report of the State Commission for investigating Russian influence on the internal security of the Republic of Poland in 2007-2022, participation in the liquidation of the Military Information Services and even the unmasking of Lech Wałęsa as a dangerous SB agent codename Bolek – are the real reasons for the repression that happened to me after December 13, 2023 – Cenckiewicz emphasized in a long entry.

He announced that he did not intend to leave the path of fighting. He added that “he has no illusions that the goal of the bad people ruling Poland is to delegitimize the president, limit his competences and ultimately – destroy and dismiss the presidency of Karol Nawrocki.”

“By leaving the ministerial position, I only want to free the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland from constant pressure and interference, to which – as a public enemy of the government of Tusk, Sikorski and Kosiniak-Kamysz – I was and am the reason for it,” Cenckiewicz added in his statement.

He also announced that he “returns not only to the role of a researcher of the past and an academic lecturer, but above all a publicist and political commentator.”

“In my new role, I will be even more responsible for the current anti-state vandalism of the government, doing everything to ensure that Prof. Przemysław Czarnek's mission is a success. I have knowledge and experience gained from my offices and the 2024/2025 election campaign, which I would like to pass on to Prof. Czarnek as a candidate for Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland. The success of this difficult mission is our raison d'état,” wrote the former head of the National Security Bureau.

The president's spokesman, Rafał Leśkiewicz, emphasized in an entry on the X platform that “due to the law-breaking actions of those in power who do not respect the final court judgments, they groundlessly deprive Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz of the right to access classified information, thus paralyzing the functioning of the National Security Bureau”, Cenckiewicz resigned from his position to the president. He added that the resignation was accepted on April 23. At the same time, he announced that General Andrzej Kowalski, former deputy head of the Bureau, had become the acting head of the National Security Bureau.

Adama Andruszkiewicz, the 10th deputy head of the KPRP, commented on Cenckiewicz's resignation. As he emphasized, Sławomir Cenckiewicz “did brilliant work for Poland within the National Security Bureau he headed – primarily driven by pro-state service.” “He did not avoid difficult (but very necessary) topics, such as universal military training. Moreover, he not only spoke in the media – but above all, he implemented specific actions around important topics. And let us remember that at the same time he had to struggle every day with the hate industry of D. Tusk's system,” he wrote.

On April 15, the Supreme Administrative Court dismissed the cassation appeals filed in 2025 by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister against the judgments of the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw, in which the Provincial Administrative Court overturned the decision to withdraw Sławomir Cenckiewicz's security clearances regarding access to classified information.

The spokesman for the Minister Coordinator of Special Services, Jacek Dobrzyński, said at the time that the Supreme Administrative Court's judgment did not mean that Cenckiewicz “automatically regained access to classified information.” He added that “in the period from the issuance of the Supreme Administrative Court's judgments to the date of completion of the inspection verification proceedings, the head of the National Security Bureau does not have access to classified information and has no right to use the security clearances issued to him.”

In July 2024, Cenckiewicz had his security clearance, which is required for access to classified information, revoked by the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW). After his complaint, the case was brought to the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw, which on June 17 last year. this decision was annulled. Prime Minister's Office on August 5 last year filed cassation appeals against the Provincial Administrative Court's judgment to the Supreme Administrative Court.

Cenckiewicz maintained that he had “access to classified national and international information based on security clearances issued by the Military Counterintelligence Service”. He referred to the judgment of the Provincial Administrative Court of April 17, 2025. He pointed out that regardless of this, as the head of an organizational unit, i.e. the National Security Bureau, he had access to classified information classified as “restricted” under the Act on the Protection of Classified Information.
