The synagogue in Poznań is up for sale. Apartments may be built there

The building of the New Synagogue at ul. Wroniecka was designed at the beginning of the 20th century by Berlin architects Cremer and Wolffenstein. During World War II, the building was transformed into a swimming pool by the occupation authorities, which resulted in the destruction of its interior and simplification of its shape.
The swimming pool operated until 2012. Since then, the building has remained undeveloped. For 17 years, the facility belonged to the Poznań Jewish religious community. In turn, since 2019, the building has been in the hands of a private investor.
New Synagogue in Poznań for sale. The price is staggering
Now the building has been put up for sale by the Remax Experts real estate agency. According to the local development plan for the Old Town, the building may be used as a hotel, apartment building or private dormitory, but its historic character will be preserved.
The hotel can be built in a five-star standard, with a maximum of 10 floors and a net area of over 7,000 m2. m. The property can also be transformed into a residential building with up to 12 floors, with approximately 122 apartments, most of which would have an area of less than 55 m2. Representatives of the Remax Experts agency point out that this is not an ordinary investment plot, but a place with a rich history. They emphasize that the condition for the development of the building is to maintain the so-called Genius Loci, or the spirit of the place. Every future investment must provide space for the Museum of Memory of the Jews of Poznań and Greater Poland. The last investor did not meet this condition. The price of the facility is PLN 35 million.
Agents emphasize that this is one of the few locations in Poland where history combines with business potential, providing the opportunity to create a prestigious hotel, a modern apartment building or a student residence, and at the same time co-create a unique memorial site.
