Important changes at Otopeni Airport. 400 parking spaces disappear, changes for ride-sharing

Bucharest Airports National Company announced on Wednesday that it will start modernizing and consolidating the multi-storey car park in front of the Arrivals Terminal of Otopeni Airport. The start of construction will lead to some changes for cars and buses that transit the area.
The main changes due to the works at the multi-storey car park at Henri Coandă Airport:
• Arrivals parking remains open only on the ground floor; the upper floors are temporarily closed.
• Buses 100 and 442 no longer stop at Sosiri station.
• The pick-up area for ride-sharing is moving to the Departures terminal.
Work on the car park, built in 2003, will start on Thursday, April 23 and is expected to take 10 months.
The parking lot is currently showing significant degradation, both at the level of the structure and the upper layers and facades, according to CNAB.
“In this way, the foundations of the building will be strengthened, connecting beams will be built in these foundations, the vertical structural elements will be completely sheathed, metal frames equipped with shock absorbers will be added to the central assemblies. Also, the waterproofing, finishes and facade elements will be restored. At the same time, the electrical installations, pipes, rainwater sewers will be restored,” the company stated.
According to the cited source, the works will be carried out in stages, to minimize passenger discomfort.
Two levels of the Otopeni Airport parking lot, closed
From Thursday, the two upper levels of the car park will be closed, with passengers having the ground floor area available to park their vehicles. However, given the limited number of parking spaces at Arrivals, CNAD recommends that passengers park in the parking lot near the Departures terminal.
Starting at 00:00 on Thursday, the ride-sharing pick-up area is moving to “Departures”, according to the directions that the alternative transport companies will provide on the passenger pick-up map. The area was identified and approved in collaboration with representatives of alternative transport companies.
Starting Wednesday, April 22, buses 100 and 442 will no longer stop at “Arrivals”. Until the works are completed, the vehicles of the two public transport lines will stop exclusively at the common “Departures” station at the airport. The measure was taken following discussions with STB representatives, CNAB stated.
The taxi rank remains in front of the “Arrivals” terminal.
Henri Coandă Airport currently has 2,226 parking spaces in public parking lots. After closing the two levels of the “Arrivals” parking lot, 400 spaces will be unavailable.
To supplement the parking capacity, at the end of the year, a new parking lot will be put into use, through which 1,019 places will be available to passengers, according to the company. The new parking lot is located near the “Arrivals” building and will be organized on 4 levels.
