The effectiveness of SGC's measures to reduce greenhouse gases has been officially confirmed

The climate projects of the Siberian Generating Company in Abakan and Kansk have undergone independent confirmation – verification and release of carbon units.
In Russia, the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions is regulated by the federal law “On Limiting Greenhouse Gas Emissions”. Companies register their environmental projects to reduce CO2 in a unified information system – a special register of carbon units. An independent, accredited expert organization estimates how many tons of CO2 were avoided as a result of these projects.

This result is recorded in carbon units, where 1 unit is 1 ton of avoided carbon dioxide emissions. Verification and release of carbon units show the companies' contribution to reducing the greenhouse effect. At the same time, carbon units are a commodity token. They are issued only for real tons of reduced CO2 emissions and are traded on the exchange market. They can be bought, sold, used to fulfill obligations.
In 2024, SGK became the first company in Russia to register a climate project in the housing and communal services sector in Krasnoyarsk. Since 2017, the city has been replacing inefficient boiler houses with the power of thermal power plants. Thermal stations operate more efficiently: they produce both electricity and heat, and, most importantly, they are equipped with modern gas purification systems. As a result, the replacement of boiler houses prevented the release of more than 109 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere of Krasnoyarsk. The project received an award at the all-Russian competition “Business Flagships – 2024”.
At the beginning of 2026, the company registered two more climate projects – in Kansk and Abakan. At the moment, both projects have successfully passed verification carried out by an independent accredited expert organization, as a result of which carbon units were issued by a single federal operator.
In Kansk, replacing the boiler house in the off-rail part of the city with the capacities of the Kanskaya CHPP has already prevented the emission of 37.8 thousand tons of CO2. For this purpose, power engineers built a new heating main with a length of 8.9 km and an automated central heating point. In Abakan, connecting consumers of 7 old boiler houses in Chernogorsk and Ust-Abakan to the Abakan CHPP not only increased the quality and reliability of heat supply, but also reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 46.2 thousand tons.
Climate projects in Krasnoyarsk and Abakan are designed until 2031, in Kansk until 2032. The measures implemented during the period of climate change projects will prevent the emission of more than 634 thousand tons of greenhouse gases.
