According to him, the police initially did not have clear information about the scene of the incident. They were moving through the area when they heard gunshots and then received confirmation over the radio that there had been gunfire. Due to the uncertainty of the location, the crew left the car not far from the house and headed towards the sounds of screams.
“We ran up to the entrance, a child was sitting, a woman was sitting and a man was lying. And they, first of all, began to navigate the situation. A colleague approached the child and said that he had a wound in the head and [было] a decision was made – we need to run to the car for a first aid kit,” Zhukov said.
According to him, at that moment new shots were heard.
“The woman also screamed that there was a man in the entrance with a weapon. Shots started and they reacted in such a way that they did not know where the fire was coming from and began to run towards their car. The boy ran after them,” the law enforcement officer noted.
Other crews subsequently arrived on scene to remove the injured boy, treat him and begin assessing the nature of his injuries.
Zhukov also said that one of the policemen took out his service weapon, but did not use it.
“The weapon was taken out of the holster, but, unfortunately, it was not used. The algorithm of action is simple: he should have taken out the weapon and fired a warning shot upward, but if there was already a threat, he should have used it,” he said.
According to the chief, the policeman has been serving since 2024 and has little experience. His partner has been working since 2015, she was brought in to strengthen him.
“Police officers are always trained: they do fire training, tactical training, spend time at the shooting range, shoot their weapons. But in this case, he didn’t even use it – that’s how he reacted,” Zhukov added.
