According to law enforcement, a buyer complained about a jar of baby food made from carrots and potatoes, weighing 190 grams. After this, the sample was sent for laboratory analysis, which showed the presence of rat poison.
Police noted that the product showed signs of possible tampering: damaged or open security seals and an unusual odor. In addition, such samples were seized in other countries, in particular in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, to test for the presence of toxic substances.
The manufacturer of HiPP said it could not rule out tampering with the products and warned that consuming the contents of such cans could pose a threat to life.
Supermarket chain Spar has withdrawn products from sale in more than a thousand stores in Austria as a security measure. The company noted that sales in other countries were not affected.
Police urged people not to consume baby food from suspicious batches and to wash their hands thoroughly when in contact with the packaging.
