The general secretary of the PNL: “For the PSD, the budget is a pipeline of public money, and when you start to close it, panic sets in. The real question is what to do”

Dan Motreanu, the general secretary of the PNL, accuses PSD leaders that, anot in a row, they were “experts” in postponing reforms in the administration, in state-owned companies or those regarding the reduction of public spending, and now they are causing a crisis. In a post on Facebook, the MEP supports what Ilie Bolojan also stated: that the tensions arose after the prime minister began to reduce privileges considered unjustified.

“PSD wants to change the prime minister. Ilie Bolojan wants to change the things that are not working in Romania. The difference is direction. When Bolojan started to cut privileges and reduce waste, PSD's reaction was predictable: no solutions, no reforms — but the threat of a political crisis. For PSD, the budget is a conduit of public money, and when you start to close it, panic sets in. It's easier to create a crisis and much harder to govern a country in complicated moments”, Motreanu wrote on Facebook.
“Reforms are never comfortable for PSD”
Motreanu accuses the ruling Social Democratic Party of acting as if it were in opposition:
“The PSD is in government, but it plays the role of the opposition: criticizes, blocks, postpones — then blames others. For years, PSD leaders have been “experts” in postponing reforms in the administration, in state-owned companies, or those related to reducing public spending. Today, when someone tries to do them, they suddenly become disturbed. It's not a surprise. Reforms are never comfortable for PSD. Governance is not an exercise in popularity. We know that if you do what is right, you will be challenged. That doesn't mean you have to stop. Liability is not optional.”
“You can't cause a crisis and then present yourself as the solution”
The Liberal leader criticizes the timing chosen for the escalation of the political conflict, comparing the situation to a hole in a boat “in the middle of a storm”.
“Romania is entering a difficult period: large deficit, rising financing costs, the urgent need for reforms and attracting European funds. Instead of stability, PSD is causing a crisis. It is as if, in the middle of a storm, someone decides to hole the boat and then claims to come to save it. Those who create instability cannot claim to defend stability. You cannot cause a crisis and then present yourself as a solution. Leadership does not mean running away when it becomes difficult”.
“Monday, PSD triggers the political crisis with economic consequences for every Romanian”
Motreanu warns that, if the PSD decides to cause a government crisis, the collaboration between the two parties will no longer be able to continue in the current coalition formula.
“The Prime Minister Bolojan made it clear: he will not resign and will act responsibly. The real question is: what does PSD do? No explanation. No solution. Just pressure. On Monday, PSD triggers the political crisis with economic consequences for every Romanian. If PSD causes a government crisis, PNL will no longer be able to be in coalition with PSD. PNL supports governmental stability and the Ilie Bolojan Government. PNL will act for good governance and stability”.
