Chancellor Merz says flying less is 'not an option for Germany'

Germany must continue to rely on air transport, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz insisted on Wednesday, according to DPA and Agerpres.
“Flying less is not an option for Germany as a place to do business,” Chancellor Merz said Wednesday at the Lufthansa centenary ceremony in Frankfurt.
“To achieve this, we need sustainable, green technologies. To achieve this, we need lower costs and greater competitiveness,” he pointed out.
The German chancellor noted that Lufthansa, which he called “strategically important,” had shaped Germany's image more than any other company and specifically thanked CEO Carsten Spohr for the company's first full acknowledgment of its role during the Nazi era.
Lufthansa and its passengers are currently facing strikes by flight crews, but those attending the ceremony were generally unaffected by the protests outside.
