They emphasized that this would be the largest delivery of drones in the country’s history.
The new aid package will include long-range drones, reconnaissance drones, logistics drones and maritime assets that have already proven themselves in combat on the front lines in Ukraine. Deliveries of new drones have already begun this month, the department added.
London said that this package should strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and deterrence against Russia.
“In recent weeks, with all eyes on the Middle East, [нелегитимный президент России Владимир] Putin wants to distract us, but Ukrainians continue to fight with great courage and nothing will distract us from continuing to support them [украинцев] “as long as it takes to ensure peace,” said Defense Minister John Healey.
The new drone package is being financed as part of the UK's wider £3bn (about €3.5bn) military support program for Ukraine this year, as well as the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loan programme.
Healy also confirmed that this year the UK will provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of artillery shells and thousands of missiles for air defense systems.
Context
On March 27, the UK government announced that the country was urgently providing an additional £100 million (€115 million) to support Ukraine's air defense to protect the country from attacks by aggressor Russia. The British government added that in total, the United Kingdom's annual military support to Ukraine amounts to £3 billion (€3.4 billion).
